Welcome

Hi!  I am Dominique Carlson, and I teach art - during the school year in the REGIS Catholic System, during the summer at several art summer camps, and occasionally adult classes through UW Extension.

I know many of my students who were interested in attending were not able to for one reason or another. I would like to give parents and students simple ideas of art that they can do at home to keep those creative juices flowing all summer.

Please note that I am collecting ideas from many sources, when ever possible I will direct you to the source. If you know where something originated that I have not given credit, please let me know.

Painted Dish Towels

I love fun dish towels. Plus flour sack towels  are the perfect blank canvas, cheap, large, and bright white! sounds like an art project made in heaven. Recently I saw the cutest idea to use fruit as “stamps” at Making Home Base

Citrus Stamped Tea Towels Cute for Summer
Adorable right? and so easy!
Supplies:
Citrus (lemon/ lime/ grapefruit- your choice)
Paint - I want to use them so I chose to use fabric paint. There are many varieties to choose from. Some sell in sets or single colors. Locally you can find them at Michaels ,Walmart  or JoAnn. You don't want spray or puffy but the other options should be fine.  Some paints remain more flexible than others so look for that too.  Deco Art - SoSoft, is fantastic if you can find it. No heat setting is a bonus.
Towels  - walmart  or Target or local hardware store.

Cut the fruit in half and let sit cut side down on paper toweling to dry off a bit. Paint wont hold on a wet surface. Squeeze a small amount of paint on an old lid or foam meat tray. tap fruit into it. you don't want a lot of paint or it will "blob" (notice how little is on the fruit in the photograph) test print on paper before stamping the towel. When you have the right amount on the fruit, stamp the towel.
Fun right!? Don't you want to make dozens?
Heat set according to directions on your paint so as not to transfer paint to your clean dishes :)

Take it a step farther and use other items to print or just draw with the paint.

Fun for all
